June 10, 2007: With over 450 events now using GotSoccer's Soccer Scheduler tournament software the web's oldest national site is preparing to release it's upgraded ranking service. Tournaments using the Soccer Scheduler software will feed results directly into the new rankings.
Although GotSoccer will still rank all events, tournaments using the Soccer Scheduler software will offer more ranking points to teams. "Winning a Premier event will still offer the same points whether or not the tournament is using our software," says Owen-Thomas. "But Soccer Scheduler events will offer competitors the opportunity to gain additional points for beating teams ranked above them, bonus points for upsetting teams ranked in the top 10 and other incentives." "It's a win-win situation," said GotSoccer's Bill Cameron. "Our clients get a valuable advantage over local opposition in that they can offer participating teams more opportunities to get ranking points, and we get to improve our rankings with detailed and precise information. Owen-Thomas announced the new rankings after the CASL Shootout became the latest top event to use the Soccer Scheduler software. "Sixteen of the top 20 events now use the tournament scheduling program, and in all more tournaments use the Soccer Scheduler than all of our competitors' software combined. And it's only getting better - we're adding new features every day," he added. "Disney, Las Vegas Shootout, WAGS, Blues Cup, PDA, Score at the Shore, Jefferson, President's Day in Phoenix, Bethesda, Cerritos, Mustang, Raleigh Shootout, Orange Classic, Rockford, and hundreds more all are Soccer Scheduler clients." The numbers are important because every team in the country has a Soccer Scheduler event nearby. "We felt comfortable tying the software to the rankings because we have tournaments throughout the country, from Washington to Florida, California to Maine," Cameron said. Every team playing in a Soccer Scheduler event has a team page, and contact and roster information in those pages are automatically attached to their applications to other events. The new rankings will tie each team's points to their team page. The new rankings are scheduled to be released on August 1 to coincide with the USYSA date change. "We're working hard to ensure the transition from our existing ranking system is clean. We want to make certain teams don't lose points," said Aaron Wilmoth, GotSoccer's architect of the move.
